What’s math art?

Math art is art that arises from mathematical complexity and/or solutions to mathematical problems. The math art I create is intended to be unique to you. It’s my promise to never sell the same work of art twice. There are two main types of math art I create: TSP art made from photographs of you or loved ones, and Mandelbrot art generated by combining the complexity of the Mandelbrot set with numbers that hold personal significance to you.

TSP Art

One continuous line that miraculously traces traces out an image. This comes from a problem in math called the “traveling salesman problem” (TSP). TSP art can be made out of portraits, other artwork, or any other images that are of importance to you.

Mandelbrot Art

Art made using the Mandelbrot set, a mathematical object famous for its fractal nature and infinite complexity. These images have coordinates, and I use numbers that are of importance to you to determine these coordinates. To see more examples check out my Mandelbrot gallery.

Meet the artist.

Hello! My name is Andrew Forbes. I am a PhD candidate for Physics in New Mexico. Much of my life is spent in the world of mathematics, and I’ve often wished I could share the beauty I see in mathematics with others. Math art is my way of applying the math I use every day to create works of art that anyone, whether you study math or not, can appreciate.
